About me
I have been playing guitar since 1958 and professional since the 70s. I have been a full time guitar teacher for the best part of the past 30 years. My method is available on DVD. Always searching for the perfect guitar. My Jam Along Cd is available on Amazon.com or you can download it from iTunes.
I have determined that one guitar was not enough to play all styles of music.
It is hard to beat a Les Paul for Rock and Roll or a Telecaster for country. The right tool for the right job.
I like a guitar to feel like it has been played for a long time. A new guitar never feels right. Kind of like new jeans vs. old jeans.
When I was a kid someone told me there was only three kinds of guitars that the professionals play. Gibson, Fender, and Martin. That advice seems to still hold today and for good reason. These are the best of the best that every other guitar manufacturer tries to copy. Now that so many imitations are out there even Gibson, Fender, and Martin make some real junk now days. You pretty much need to be into their custom shop series to get a guitar made like back in the old days. Even then it won't be broke in until it gets played for 25 years.
I never consider a guitar that has been broken or repaired. I look for 100% original. Only nitro cellulose laquor finish. No changed out tuners, pickups, or any other part. Did I say no repairs?
The guitar must have five factors before I buy it.
1. Must sound great. All guitars sound good, but some sound great.
2. Must play great. If not it will prevent you from sounding great.
3. Needs to look good. Unless you are going for the destitute blues guitar player look.
4. Must make me sound better than I am.
5. Must have investment potential. It is the only way to justify an expensive guitar.
Many guitars you find have four out of five factors listed above. I would pass on those and keep looking for a guitar that has all five.
All of my guitars have all five factors. Much time involved in research and finding these fine examples.
I will consider all offers but please remember that low ball offers will be considered insulting and will not be answered.
